So it’s the first weekend in December, which means it’s officially time to start feeling festive! There are a huge number of family-friendly events in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire and slightly further afield this December. From feeding the ducks with Santa Claus and visiting his grotto, to meeting his reindeer and singing carols, there won’t be a dull moment.

Here’s a round-up of Llanelli Christmas events:

Llanelli reindeer parade:

Saturday, December 2. 12-3pm.

A free event, and one which was the highlight for us last year. Santa and his reindeer will travel through town, starting at East Gate and ending in the town centre. Also taking part in the Llanelli reindeer parade will be the City of Swansea Pipe Band and the Friendship Theatre Group.

Elf school, Elli Shopping Centre, Llanelli:

Learn how to be one of Santa’s helpers at the Elli Centre Elf School run by the Mark Jermin Stage School in the lead-up to Christmas. The chief elf will take the class, teaching children the secret code, how to wrap a present like an elf, hand out a special gift and teach you how to make a festive door hanger. The lessons cost £8.50 and are running through December. Check here for times and booking details.

Gwili Railway Santa’s magical steam train:

Ride the steam train to Santa’s grotto, where there will be entertainment including face painting, balloons and Loopy Lews on offer while you wait to meet the main man. Father Christmas is able to speak to children in English or Welsh.

Llwyfan Cerrig Station Santa train 2017 dates:

Saturday December 2 and Sunday 3, Saturday December 9 and Sunday 10, Saturday December 16 and Sunday 17, Friday December 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24.

Prices vary depending on the child’s age and date of travel.

Breakfast with Father Christmas at Llanelly House:

Saturday December 9, 16 and 23. 9am-10.30am.

Enjoy a children’s breakfast and decorate a cookie at Llanelly House before Father Christmas pops in to say hello with some gifts. £10 per child. Call 01554 772857 to book.

Llanelli Rotary Club Santa’s grotto:

Why not do your bit to help this Christmas and help to raise some money for local charities? Llanelli Rotary Club always have an amazing grotto, with a very authentic looking Santa, and this year they’ve set up in Morrisons, Parc Pemberton. He’ll be there from 10am -4pm every Saturday in December, as well as Sunday December 17 and three afternoons in the run up to Christmas – from 3pm-6pm on Wednesday December 20 to Friday December 22.

This grotto really is worth a visit and raises thousands for worthwhile charities!

Feed the birds with Santa at WWT Penclacwydd, Llanelli:

Father Christmas will be visiting the wetlands in Llanelli every Sunday in December to help feed the birds. Meet the man in red at 2.45pm and take a walk around the grounds. The activity is free, but normal entry charges apply.

The centre is also running Christmas craft workshops and sessions where you can make boxes for robins to nest in. See the website for details.

Aberglasney Winter fair:

Saturday December 2 – Sunday December 3, 10am – 4.30pm

Do a spot of Christmas shopping at the craft, gift and decoration stalls. There will also be food and entertainment. Free glass of mulled wine and a mince pie for all visitors. Father Christmas will also be there in his grotto. Adults £8.50, free for children up to 16.

Winter Wonderland at Three Crosses, Gower:

This is another one that we visited last year, and it really was magical. You take a walk through the winter wonderland to find Father Christmas in his grotto. Not only do you feel like you’re really in a snowy North Pole as you wander through an icy room with polar bears, but you get to sit in Santa’s sleigh before going in to meet him. You can also meet his reindeer and some other farm animals while you’re there. Open from 9.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and until 3pm on Christmas Eve. Adults £4, children £9, family ticket (two adults, two children) £22.

Meet Santa at St Elli Shopping Centre, Llanelli:

You can’t miss Santa’s grotto in Llanelli town centre this year – it’s huge! He’s there from 12-5pm Monday to Friday, 10am – 5pm Saturday and 11am-3.30pm on Sundays until December 17, then 11am-6pm Monday to Friday, 10am-5pm on Saturday and 11am-3.30pm on Sunday from December 18 to Christmas Eve.

One child costs £5, with a wrapped gift, or £9 for two children.

Christmas fair at Pembrey Country Park:

Sunday, December 3. 11am-4pm

Father Christmas will be in his log cabin in the woods, and will be feeding his reindeer at 12pm and 2pm (free). There will be craft and food stalls, and carol singing.

Santa Sunday at Dinefwr:

Sunday, December 3, and Sunday December 17. 12pm – 3pm.

Come along and meet Father Christmas in his grotto at Newton House. Price includes a free child’s squash and a Christmas shortbread biscuit. Booking is essential.

Winter Wonderland at the National Botanic Garden of Wales:

December 8 – December 17. 4pm-7pm.

The Botanic Garden is opening after dark to offer a lights show, owl display, free mulled wine and mince pie, Bar, barbecue, turkey rolls and other treats, fun, games and music.
£6 adults, £3 children, free for members.

Llangennech Christmas lights switch-on:

December 9. 2.30pm-7pm

It’s that time of year again for Santa to drive through the village. Starting at around 2.30pm Santa will be in his Grotto at the Village Community Centre. There will be a Christmas Fair on inside the hall and fun activities for the children. Then around 4pm Santa will leave to to drive through the village stopping at Salem to switch on the Christmas lights before returning to the Centre around 6.30pm for another half hour for any children to meet him that could not make it earlier in the day.

The Polar Express at Ffwrnes, Llanelli:

Saturday December 9. 2pm.

Escape the cold and watch a special screening of The Polar Express at Ffwrnes, in Llanelli. Head down in your pyjamas and take your favourite teddy along. You will be met by a train conductor, who will take your ticket and show you in to the theatre, And who knows, maybe Santa will be around! £8 for children and £5 for adults.

Breakfast with Santa at Pla Cwtsh Chwarae:

Saturday and Sunday from December 9 – December 24, plus Friday, December 22.

Children can enjoy a dinky cwtsh breakfast in the grotto and receive a gift from Santa. The elves will have their very own Elf Trail where you can collect stamps as you play games, join in activities and get creative with the crafts.

Cost is £7 per child plus normal entry fee.

Character breakfasts at Sessile Oak, Pemberton, Llanelli:

Not so much of a festive event, but it sounds fun nonetheless!

Enjoy breakfast and a gift while meeting the following characters: Star Wars on Sunday December 10, Mickey & Minnie on Saturday December 16th, Transformers on Sunday December 17. £7 per child, adult standard breakfast costs £5.95.  From 9am.

Parc y Bocs Christmas Fair, Kidwelly:

Sunday December 17, 10am-4pm.

Free entry to a Christmas fair with Santa’s grotto, live music, festive fun and plenty of shopping opportunities for last-minute Christmas gifts.

Afternoon tea with Father Christmas, Thomas Arms Llanelli:

Sunday December 17. 2pm-4pm. £10 per child.

Santa will be visiting on December 17 to have afternoon tea. Santa and his elves will be playing games and having lots of fun for a two hour long party. Parents can join in for free and enjoy some tea or coffee or a seasonal tipple of mulled cider or mulled wine from the bar.

Christmas Eve carriage rides, Parc Howard:

December 24, 12pm-5pm.

A magical Christmas Eve carriage ride with the glass slipper princess in her winter outfit! The rides will take place around the beautiful grounds of Parc Howard Llanelli , the carriage will be pulled along by the beautiful white horses. You can book a carriage of five friends or single riders can also fill a carriage. Each guest will receive a gorgeous gift from the princess, an exact replica of the glass slipper princesses earrings (clip-ons).
